Russ Davis, a partner at Organix in Walla Walla, Washington explains how cow manure has long been thought of as a by-product of the dairy industry. Now, it's an asset that has value as a peat moss alternative, transforming it from a by-product to a product that is locally sourced. There's no need to import it from Canada or Sri Lanka, and it creates jobs in Washington. Potato growers, hops farmers, and grape growers all create demand for the compost.
