Cows are coming to Bellevue June 26 – July 1. You won’t see them at Nordstrom or Kate Spade but – you may see them lounging at the Hyatt – host site for the 2017 National Holstein Convention.
The Washington State Holstein Association, an association of Washington State Holstein Breeders, is eager to host Holstein enthusiasts from around the US. The state association has plans for formal activities for both adults and juniors including Dairy Knowledge exams for Junior attendees and a cow sale on the evening of June 30th.
Susan Van Dyk, of the Washington State Holstein Association says, “We have been planning for the 2017 Convention for almost five years. We’ve worked hard to bring in partners and to make our guests feel welcome here in Washington – we are most excited to have our visitors tour Washington dairy farms and discover the things that make our state unique. We expect approximately 1,200 attendees to come to Washington for the National Holstein Convention this year.”
Since its formation, the National Holstein Association has been dedicated to the development of the Holstein breed. Today, Holstein cattle dominate the U.S. dairy industry. Holstein Association USA maintains the records for all ancestry, identity, ownership and performance information on more than 22 million Registered Holstein cattle that is contained in Association files.
The dairy community has always prioritized the health and happiness of the cow above all else. Associations devoted to the breed of particular cattle like the Holstein give farmers and enthusiasts alike resources to track genetic traits and family history of cows on the farm.
Michelle Schilter, Chair of the Board for the Dairy Farmers of Washington (DFW), “The Dairy Farmers of Washington are pleased to welcome fellow dairy farmers from all over the country. This is an important event for us as we bring people together and invest in the adults and kids who will move the dairy community forward into the future.”
DFW will be hosting an exhibit at the convention. Be sure to stop by or follow us on Facebook for live updates from the event.
